Building Muscle to Burn Fat
Do you include some type of strength training in your weekly workout plan?
My name is Haven Schulz, owner of Health Haven Personal Training Studio in Laguna Beach. I have first-hand experience when it comes to the benefits that building muscle can bring. Everyone has different goals when it comes to their physical fitness and appearance. Not everyone wants to look ripped and/or muscular. Just because you start lifting weights doesn’t mean you will look like that. One of the main reasons I encourage my clients to include strength training is because building muscle can, YES, help you burn more fat!
Let me explain. When your body is “at rest” during your day, you have a certain number of calories you burn. Maintaining muscle mass burns more calories than maintaining fat. So, when you build muscle your metabolism does speed up because it takes more calories to keep that new muscle maintained than it did the fat you used to have.
However, building muscle to burn fat is not the only benefit.
Building muscle can also:
- improve your posture
- improve your endurance
- prevent you from injury
- and so much more!
At Health Haven Studio, I train a lot of clients who participate in a variety of other activities such as yoga, biking, swimming, surfing, etc. Weightlifting has improved all of their performances in those different activities.
Ok, so if building muscle burns fat and can improve and strengthen your body to enjoy the activities you want to participate in, then why not include it in your week?!
Maybe you have never lifted weights before and need some guidance? Well, that’s what personal trainers like me are here for! Before you add strength training into your workout routine, I highly encourage you seek out some guidance to learn proper technique and mind-to-muscle control.
